Revolutionizing Access to Operating Instructions for Construction Machinery as "Hey TADANO"

How Tadano built "Hey TADANO" on Agentwise — a proprietary AI-powered support system that serves as an intelligent companion for crane operators and service technicians worldwide.

"Hey TADANO" is a proprietary AI-powered support system developed by Tadano, built on Agentwise to serve as an intelligent companion for crane operators, service technicians, and customers. In the construction and lifting industry, having immediate access to the right operating instructions is not just a matter of efficiency — it's a matter of safety. But when that knowledge is buried across hundreds of PDFs, multiple content management systems, and product-specific databases, finding the right manual at the right moment becomes a real problem.

The Challenge

Tadano, one of the world's leading manufacturers of cranes and lifting equipment, managed thousands of datasheets and operating manuals across different systems — including SCHEMA ST4 for structured technical documentation. The information existed, but accessing it was slow and inconsistent.

The challenges were:

  • Operators and technicians had to manually search across multiple systems to find relevant documentation
  • Natural-language queries — "How do I calibrate the hydraulic pressure on model X?" — weren't supported
  • Support staff were regularly pulled in to help locate information that should have been self-service
  • Content was spread across different formats, languages, and product lines

The Solution

Tadano deployed Agentwise as the foundation for "Hey TADANO" — a unified, branded AI companion built on top of their existing documentation infrastructure.

Unified information platform — Hey TADANO integrates all datasheets and operating instructions from disparate sources, including SCHEMA ST4, into a single searchable knowledge base. Operators and technicians access everything from one place without needing to know where the original file lives.

Intelligent natural-language search — Instead of navigating folder structures or entering exact file names, users describe what they need in plain language. Hey TADANO understands the context and retrieves the most relevant documentation, including specific sections from long manuals.

Multilingual access — Technical documentation in multiple languages is handled transparently, allowing users to query in their preferred language and receive relevant results regardless of the source document's language.

The Outcome

After launching Hey TADANO, both Tadano employees and customers gained the ability to find operating instructions independently and quickly — without routing requests through support staff. Time spent searching for documentation dropped dramatically, and the number of support requests related to "where do I find…" queries fell sharply.

Service technicians in the field can pull up precise instructions on-site using a mobile interface. Customers onboarding new machinery are able to self-serve through the product lifecycle without waiting for manual support. The documentation team also benefited: with better visibility into what users were searching for, they could identify and close gaps in their technical content.
